GIS Map is a free interactive mapping site covering all 50 U.S. states, 2,170 cities, 1,206 counties and 6,545 ZIP codes, built on Esri ArcGIS and public government data.

Maps for every place

  • State pages: a map of each state with every covered city and a list of its counties.
  • City map pages: a full-screen interactive map for each of 2,170 cities, with the details and data sections described below.
  • County pages: 1,206 counties with the official Census boundary outlined on the map, demographics, and links to their cities and ZIP codes.
  • ZIP code pages: 6,545 ZIP Code Tabulation Areas with boundary maps, demographics, the cities they serve and their county.
  • City search: the search box in the header jumps straight to any city.

Interactive map features

  • Basemaps: switch between streets, satellite imagery, topographic and dark gray views.
  • Navigation widgets: zoom, home, locate-me, scale bar and address/place search.
  • Drawing tools: sketch points, lines and polygons on the map.
  • Measuring tools: measure distances and areas directly on the map.
  • Click-anywhere inspector: click any spot to see its county, ZIP code, census tract, school district, FEMA flood zone and elevation.
  • Map layers: turn on FEMA flood hazard zones, USGS elevation contours and shaded relief, NLCD land cover, school district boundaries, ZIP code boundaries and county boundaries, with a legend.

City information

  • Key facts: county, coordinates, elevation, time zone, ZIP codes, distance to the state capital and nearby cities.
  • Local time: current local time plus today's sunrise and sunset.
  • Overview: a summary of each city from Wikipedia.
  • Photos: city photos from Wikimedia Commons with attribution.
  • Demographics: population, households, median income, median age, home values, rent, home ownership, education, poverty, land area and density from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020-2024 5-year estimates).
  • Federal properties: federally owned and leased buildings in the city from the GSA Inventory of Owned and Leased Properties.
  • Soils: the dominant soil map unit at the city center from the USDA NRCS U.S. General Soil Map, including drainage, hydrologic group and component soils.
  • FAQ: quick answers to common questions about each city.
  • Local news: the latest headlines for each city, loaded live from Google News, with an RSS feed you can subscribe to.
